Jun 29, 2009
VISIT OF FRANCOPHONE BISHOPS
The Province recently welcomed a group of bishops from French-speaking Provinces to Bujumbura. Apart from opportunities for them to share fellowship and discuss together their mission and ministry they were also able to experience something of Burundi’s culture and hospitality.
CONFERENCE ON CLIMATE CHANGE
As a member of the AACC General Committee Edmond Bayisabe represented the Province at the conference held in Sweden in May entitled “Commitment on Climate Justice” that was organised by the Swedish International Development and Cooperation Agency.
More than a hundred delegates from Africa, Asia, Europe and Latin America gathered to learn, share, discuss and reflect on issues relating to climate change, such as advocacy and justice, human rights, and sustainable development.
The Conference was a key opportunity for civil society organizations to mobilize and strategize their contribution for the forthcoming Climate Conference Copenhagen, Denmark that is expected to produce a Copenhagen Protocol to prevent global warming and climate change which will replace the Kyoto Protocol that expires in 2012.
MOTHERS’ UNION PROVINCIAL PRESIDENTS CONFERENCE
Mrs. Mathilde Nkwirikiye attended the Provincial Presidents’ conference held in Canterbury, UK. Based around the theme of journeying together she had the opportunity to share the work of Mothers’ Union in Burundi with others from around the world.
MATANA THEOLOGICAL INSTITUTE
Three students, one from each of the dioceses of Buye, Gitega, and Matana, graduated from Matana Institute on the 21st June 2009. They request prayers as they prepare for ordained ministry in the Church.
