Sunday 13th November was a day of thanksgiving in Buye Diocese as the congregation led by the Bishop, the Rt. Rev. Sixbert Macumi celebrated 50 years jubilee.

Also present were the Archbishop of Burundi, The Most Rev. Martin Blaise Nyaboho, other Bishops and members of the family of the first Burundian Bishop of Buye, the Rt. Rev. John Nkunzumwami who led the Diocese for 13 years.

Paying tribute to the ministry of Bishop Nkunzumwami, Archbishop Nyaboho said, "Bishop John Nkunzumwami fulfilled his ministry because he trusted in the power and faithfulness of Christ when He promised to be always with His servants”.

Bishop Sixbert stressed that the work done by his predecessors, Bishop John Nkunzumwami and Bishop Samuel Ndayisenga would always be considered as a strong foundation for the Church. He commented that it was good to have time to reflect on how those Bishops fulfilled the Great Commission and to renew a commitment to God for the present and the future.

Archbishop Nyaboho also honoured the missionaries who, out of their love for God brought the Gospel of Christ and gave their lives as a sacrifice in the service of the people of Burundi.

Bishop John Nduwayo, the Dean of the Province said “We thank God for the growth of the Church and for what the Church is doing for the Burundian community”.

The Province of the Anglican Church of Burundi now has seven Dioceses covering the whole country. The Church is pursuing its mission of proclaiming the Gospel of Christ, improving education and the health of the community, working for the consolidation of peace and reconciliation, tackling poverty, protecting the environment and fighting against gender based violence.
